LESSON PLAN - INTERPRETERPRO TRAINING PACK ===================================== Judge's Oral Ruling on Pretrial Motions in Arraignment English → Spanish · court assignment · speech (single speaker) · September 17, 2026 FOCUS AREAS: Domain terminology TECHNIQUE: This pod trains the interpreter to handle dense consecutive stretches of technical legal language with embedded procedural terminology, requiring rapid access to specialized arraignment vocabulary while processing complex conditional sentences and legal reasoning structures. The interpreter must maintain terminological precision under time pressure, managing the cognitive load of technical terms clustered in rapid succession while capturing the logical framework of judicial reasoning. A NOTE ON THIS PLAN These instructions describe how to get the most from this practice session. A training environment is not an assignment: some techniques here exist to build a reflex under controlled conditions and are not guidance for professional conduct in a live setting. --------------------------------------------------- VOCABULARY LIST (10 terms) Vetted by InterpreTrain - federally certified court interpreters --------------------------------------------------- 1. motion to suppress evidence - petición de eliminar pruebas 2. indebtedness is evidenced - deuda se hace constar 3. in custody - detenido 4. on the record - en las actas 5. lumbosacral area - zona lumbosacra 6. search warrant - orden de registro 7. I find - concluyo 8. consistent with - indicar 9. basis - fundamento 10. admitted - aceptado These vetted terms appear in their natural grammatical forms within the script. =================================================== HOW TO USE THIS TRAINING POD - STEP BY STEP =================================================== Your practice is organized into five training phases, each with its own section on your practice page. Work through them in order. Do not skip ahead to the model interpretation until you have completed your own attempt in Phase 3. --------------------------------------------------- PHASE 1 - VOCABULARY PREPARATION Section: Vocabulary --------------------------------------------------- Study the terms before you listen to anything. Unfamiliar vocabulary during the audio will break your concentration and cost you the passage. Open the Vocabulary section and read each term and its translation aloud (the full list is also printed above in this lesson plan). Work through the list until you can produce the rendering without hesitation - the flashcard drill in Phase 2 is where you test that under time pressure. --------------------------------------------------- PHASE 2 - AUDIO FLASHCARD DRILL Section: Flashcard Drill --------------------------------------------------- Open the Flashcard Drill section and press play. Each card plays: - Source term - Context sentence - 8 seconds silence (your interpretation window) - "The answer:" cue - Target term + context sentence Say the target term aloud during the silence, then compare your answer when it plays. Run the full drill at least twice before moving to Phase 3. On the second pass, focus only on the terms you missed or hesitated on. --------------------------------------------------- PHASE 3 - CONSECUTIVE PRACTICE Section: Interpret and Record --------------------------------------------------- Open the Interpret and Record section. It has the practice audio at two speeds and the script. Our audio plays straight through - you decide where the chunks fall. That is the skill you are building. WARM UP FIRST - do not record these. Shadow: play the ~120 wpm track and repeat what you hear, in the same language, a beat behind the speaker. Keep pace without pausing. Two or three minutes. Paraphrase: play a passage and take notes, then restate the idea in the same language using different words. If no synonym comes, repeat what you heard. This trains you to hold meaning rather than wording. THEN INTERPRET, RECORDING YOURSELF. 1. Play the ~120 wpm track and take notes as you listen. 2. At the end of a complete idea - one speaker turn is a good starting chunk - press Pause, or tap the spacebar. 3. Read your notes and render the passage aloud. 4. Resume. Repeat to the end. 5. Take longer chunks as you get comfortable. That progression is the training. Then repeat at ~140 wpm. If a term escapes you, paraphrase, approximate, and keep going. Stopping mid-passage to hunt for a word breaks the flow of the exercise. Do NOT read the script before you interpret. The whole value of this exercise depends on working from audio only, as in a real assignment. --------------------------------------------------- PHASE 4 - REVIEW AND MODEL INTERPRETATION Section: Model Interpretation --------------------------------------------------- Open the Model Interpretation section - but only AFTER your own attempt in Phase 3. How to review: 1. Read the source transcript and mark any segments where your rendition was inaccurate or incomplete. 2. Follow the bilingual transcript - each source turn followed by its interpretation. This is your reference for vocabulary, register, and structure. 3. Play the model interpretation. Listen actively: - Note how terminology is rendered - Notice register consistency between speakers - Observe how numbers and proper nouns are handled 4. Repeat Phase 3 with the insights from this review. Note: This pod uses speech format (single speaker). The model interpretation is AI-generated and highly reliable for this format. --------------------------------------------------- PHASE 5 - REVIEW YOUR OWN INTERPRETATION Section: Review Interpretation --------------------------------------------------- Open the Review Interpretation section - the tool that closes the loop. How to use the review tool: 1. Record yourself interpreting the Phase 3 audio (use Voice Recorder on Windows, or any app). 2. Load your recording into the tool. 3. It plays your audio alongside the bilingual transcript so you can check vocabulary, accuracy, and completeness in real time. 4. Mark gaps and patterns to drill on the next pass. This is the loop-closing step. Without listening back to yourself, you cannot identify the specific patterns you need to fix. Make this part of every session. =================================================== SELF-ASSESSMENT CHECKLIST =================================================== After completing all five phases, rate yourself: [ ] I can produce all 10 vocabulary terms without hesitation [ ] I maintained accuracy at ~120 wpm [ ] I maintained accuracy at 140 wpm with notes [ ] My register matched the speaker (formal/informal) [ ] I rendered all numbers and proper nouns correctly [ ] I did not omit any complete speaker turns If you checked all boxes: you are ready to move to a new scenario or attempt the next difficulty level. If not: repeat Phase 3 focusing on the gaps above. --------------------------------------------------- TerpMate Training Pod · interpretrain.com
